What to wear to the Fall Family Photo Session | New Jersey

Fall is a great time for family photo shoots. The combination of soft light and contrasting colors with a predominance of warm yellow-red gamut gives wonderful shots. These family portraits can hang on your walls and delight you for years to come. Remember that the wrong choice of style and clothing color for the participants in the photo shoot can spoil the most winning plot.

#1. What to wear to the Family Photo Session

In order for the fall photo shoot to be successful, you need to pay attention to the clothing color and accessories (hats, scarves, vests, belts, jewelry) choice that will be in use during the shooting. Sure, color plays a big role, but we can’t forget things like material, design, and clothing style. Autumn can be quite cool already, so light flying fabrics (satin, chintz, silk, etc.) are not suitable for a fall family photo shoot. Those outfits with the background of bare trees and fallen leaves look unnatural.

#2. How to choose a clothing color

Choosing the clothing color is very important for a family photo session, as it is necessary to take into account that all family members’ clothes need to be in harmony with each other. There should be one common primary color that each participant should have in their outfit for best family photography result.

As you know, there are compatible and incompatible colors, as well as restrictions on the number of colors. If all family members have only one color of clothes, it can be boring and uninteresting. But more than four colors is overkill. Usually two to four different colors are sufficient.

Beige and gray (and their shades) can be used with any combination of colors. But if you use bright colors, then you should choose related (same color, but different shades) or contrasting colors. For a Fall photo shoot, you can choose purple, as with a lot of yellow and burgundy Autumn shades, this one can work well. The combination of white and black is universal, but for the Fall photo shoot, these colors must be used very carefully.

#3. Style choices

There are many clothes options for the Fall photo shoot. The clothes of all family members should be in the same style, and the colors should harmonize with each other, because we want beautiful photos, right? Women should avoid:

  • Very short skirts
  • Evening Dress
  • Clothing with sequins or rhinestones
  • Shoes with high heels
  • Light, airy and translucent fabrics, as well as abstract color prints and “acidic” tones are not suitable for an Autumn photo shoot. Puffy sleeves and lots of lace would be a bad choice.

It is advisable for men not to wear classic suits, down jackets and clothes with the logos of their favorite sports teams. Both women and men are not recommended to wear sneakers.
